Summary

Bunded erosion plotThis section of the website describes the project's work on soil erosion and run-off.

The majority of SOWAP's work in this area will be done at demonstration sites in each of the project countries. These sites will have bunded erosion plots to collect eroded sediment and run-off water, which will then be analysed for nutrient content. A site weather station will record all climatic data

Weather station at demonstration siteThe project will use visual soil erosion methods to assess the extent of soil loss at the field scale. These assessments will be done on ‘farmer fields' – fields, split in two, with one half under conservation tillage and the other half ploughed .

In addition, research students will use rainfall simulation experiments to answer specific questions about the erosion process – follow the link and read about the work of Sophie Cooper and Annemie Leys. [VIEW]
