Terrestrial Ecology

This section provides information on the project's work on the effect of conservation tillage on soil biodiversity and farmland birds and their food resources e.g. seeds and arthropods.

Soil biodiversity, arthropods and weed seeds will be surveyed in spring and autumn in the UK and in Hungary . In Belgium only earthworm populations will be monitored. Winter and summer surveys of birds will be undertaken in the UK and Hungary . Preliminary surveys carried out in Belgium suggested that the numbers of birds would be too low to demonstrate differences between soil management options .

Research students will answer specific questions about soil microbiology and earthworms – follow the link and read about the work of Kathryn Allton and Avril Rothwell. [VIEW]
