Finding and Demonstrating Ways of Better Managing the Land

SOWAP aims to demonstrate and disseminate soil and water conservation techniques and their impacts to farmers, to illustrate the environmental, economic and social implications. The establishment of a network of farmers in the vicinity of each demonstration site will facilitate this dissemination. Site-specific agricultural practices, based on farmer preference and previous studies of conservation practices will be implemented and discussed at farmer meetings.

Establishment of such networks is at a very early stage. However, in the UK, two farmers in the Loddington area are already contributing to the terrestrial ecology component of the project, by providing ploughed and conservation tillage fields for study. They are Richard Wright at Oxey Farm and Christopher Renner of I.W.Renner and Sons , Normanton
